Can anyone confirm if this is root rot? It’s a jade and a Purple Heart. Theres no roots forming yet, but I don’t know if the browning at the end is part of the process and will prevent roots from growing? I’m just learning how to do this and got some stem cuttings from my aunt to start my own plant journey. They’ve been in a jar of water for about a week and a half. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

    Are the brown parts mushy?

They mostly still feel kind of firm but some brown sludge did kind of come off when I tried to squeeze the end

I think keep an eye on them. A week and a half is too soon to see roots yet. Were they allowed to callous before placing in water? I learned the hard way that super fresh cuttings tend to rot if they don’t dry out a bit first.

They were cut and just laid there for about a day… maybe it wasn’t a full day. I checked for callus and the ends seemed dry. Would it be worth cutting like an inch and trying again? Or just keep them in the water and see what happens in a week?

Is that the actual stem that’s brown or is that the left over from the leaves that were peeled off to reveal the nodes (like if the last leaf was peeled off completely). Sorry if I didn’t ask this right to get my point across lol

The right one, the jade, is just stem. The Purple Heart… I was pretty sure it was just stem when it was cut but it kind of peeled off like it was a leaf

Yes I have lots of these because every time a stem breaks from my big girl I throw it in water lol it does look like a piece of the leaf on the Purple Heart and I also see some other props turn brown like the jade. I just clean it off and as long as it’s still firm I put it back with fresh water. But if it is mushy I amputate it.
