This (corn?) plant loves this spot and has grown so quickly that it is now officially touching my ceiling 😳 does anybody know if I’m able to propagate it and if so, how? Or any other suggestions that would allow me to keep the plant here other than cutting a hole in my ceiling 😅 TIA!

Same thing happened with mine and then I had to move house and this baby wasnt going to fit in the van so I ended up chopping the stems in half. I left the main plant on the original pot and cut the chopped off bit into smaller pieces approx 25cm each and left them in water to grow roots (had to remove some leaves to make it easier). Suffice to say that over a few months they all grew roots and I repotted them all, they are all happy and healthy. ☺️☺️ I changed the water weekly while they were growing their roots. Best of luck!

Question, did the stem come through the top opening? Mine just keeps extending into hugeeee leafs but hasn’t gotten as tall as yours!That’s impressive!
2개 좋아요Ever since I got it, I think it was only more leaves growing out. So I’m not sure how it grew prior to me owning it. Sorry! Im no help there
0개 좋아요Sorry I never replied to this 🙈 finally making the time to deal with this now. Do you mean this brown part when you say “stem”? I’m unsure if it goes all the way up and the leaves at the top are just covering it? I’m assuming cutting it where the brown (stem?) is already exposed probably makes the most sense? But then I run into the problem of it looking pretty unattractive in this spot in my house. Would be nice to have it looking somewhat nice when I host family this christmas etc. would it be possible to cut it closer to the top and do what Bb was saying and just remove some leaves to grow roots in water (removing leaves will expose the stem part?)
Hi Carly, I would probably wait until after Christmas activities and then chop that brown central stem, propagating the top section. I think if it were me, I would chop the main plant in half to give me a few more years until we have the same problem again (depending on how quickly this baby grows!)

0개 좋아요So I tried to do “air layering” as a form of propagation after speaking to my local nursery. Unfortunately after months of caring for it through the air layering process, no roots grew. So just a few days ago I cut it as we discussed on this thread. However, the clipping is so big that I have nothing to store it in with water that will hold it up. Any suggestions? Out of desperation, I potted it in soil so that at least it can stay upright but not sure if it will be able to grow roots this way or not.
0개 좋아요Finally found a bucket big enough about a week later and switched it to water. And now there’s roots! Yay! Many many leaf casualties along the way to this point and quite a lot of browning leaves now too. But hoping it can be salvaged from here at least.
