I'm looking to propagate golden pothos to make it fuller at the base. I was told by an employee at a local florist/house plant store that I can just cut one of the stems between two leaves and stick into the soil. Is this correct? Or is it better to propagate it in water first, then plant it into the soil? Thank you!
It’s personal preference. You can do either as long as there’s a visible node. Just submerge the node in either water or soil and hope some roots grow. Just keep in mind if you choose to go the water route it might need a little extra watering once transferred to soil so it can adjust.

I always cut the vines and then remove the lower leaf and use my chop stick to make a hole in a bare spot in the pot and I stick it in the hole. It works either way and is preference. Sometimes I use Pothos cuttings when I do prop in water because they help other propagations to root better. Have fun with it. Pothos are resilient!! 😊

1 gillaI usually start mine In water, I like to see the roots and growing and healthy. but like Em said you can do either!
3 gillningarIf you see something like this cut just below it, I usually root mine for a bit in water and then transfer them to soil once the roots grow a bit, luckily in my experience pothos are very forgiving and haven’t got mad when I move them to dirt
