For people who are well versed with water props, I have been facing a recurrent issue. Everytime I deal with water propagations I encounter a whiteish fuzz and slimey substance surrounding areas of my plant (specifically around the roots and nodes). Sometimes it leads to rot. What are ways to combat it? Any tips would be helpful.

Hi! I do them a lot! I found that mine do this when I take a cutting off of an already dying part of the plant. I don’t know if this is the same issue you’re having as it’s kind of hard for me to tell by the picture, but mine always led to rot when this is the case. I would start off with propagating some pathos and work your way up to bigger plants that are harder to do like Monstera. I never have a good luck with snake plants and depending on the plant that you are water propagating sometimes they need to sit for a little bit before sticking them in water as well!

Interesting. I always change the water weekly for water props for maybe the first month, and then after that month I only top off the water as it evaporates. I have been lucky to say that none of my water props so far have rotted. I know there’s always a chance a prop just won’t take or will rot. If you see root rot, chop off the bad roots, even if you have to chop it all off, and start over! Hopefully you can catch it quick enough to only have to chop off some of the roots. Whether you have roots left or not make sure before you put back into water to disinfect the roots with a peroxide water mix

All of my props do this. I just change the water weekly or whenever it happens. Haven’t had any problems with them after being potted so I think it’s just from sitting in the water for a long period of time

It’s a type of algae that eats the roots—it happens with all still water propagations. You can add an air stone to the water for agitation. The easier option is changing the water weekly lol
