You can peal an avocado seed and wrap it into a wet paper towel and put it in a zip lock bag or container and put it in a dark place for a little and when it has root(s) (I like to wait until a sprout start coming out) then just put it into a jar of water

I treat mine the same, only I put my bag under my grow light or by a sunny window; sprouts roots faster. Then, I put it in soil. Here is a pic of my latest.

I’ve had luck growing from water and in soil! Water is more fun because you get to see the roots grow 🤓 but soil tends to produce a better plant once it sprouts leaves.

I’ve tried germinating avocado seeds like dozens of times and only had luck once. Most recently, I had three pits, treated them all the same, and finally, FINALLY, I got a sprout and it is thriving. The other two pits just rotted. Well, one of them grew roots, but it didn’t sprout and eventually rotted. The other never did anything except turn brown and rot. If I remember correctly, I carefully peeled off the papery seed skin, loosely wrapped it a damp paper towel, put it in a ziplock bag that wasn’t fully closed, and set it in a darkish place. I checked super often for roots and kept the paper towel damp (not wet) so the seed was in a warm humid environment. Once I got roots, I stuck three toothpicks around it so I could suspend it in a cup of water. The broader side goes down in the water, with the water covering just the bottom third of the seed. I added water when it got low, and never filled it above 1/3 of the seed. It took a few weeks, but I got sprout and just left it in the cup. The plant was probably like 10inches tall before I potted it in soil. Soil covering only half the seed, so it sticks out with the sprout coming out of the cracked seed. Pardon the aluminum foil, my boy cat loves dirt.

I saw a recommendation to trim the sprout when it’s six inches tall (supposed to promote more robust root growth) but I was too excited about finally getting an avocado seed to sprout and I couldn’t bear lopping its head off 😭😂
