Very new to propagating. Picked up this Swiss Cheese propagation from a local plant store. The leaves are looking so bad - is this its way of telling me to put it in some soil?

It’s hard to tell from the picture, but I usually wait until the roots are at least 2 inches long, and the main roots start growing roots off of them as well. How long ago did you get this? Are you changing the water? If so are you using tap water or purified/distilled?

Got it about a month ago and I'm not changing the water regularly and usually use tap water. I guess I need to change regularly. Definitely two inches long.

Personally, I let my roots grow a while, sometimes even months, so I know they’ll be strong and do well in soil. Sounds like maybe you could transfer to soil! If you’re going to keep in water, definitely do a water change soon and use filtered or distilled water.

It can go in soil now. It has sufficient rots over 2 inches. I assume you fertilized it in the water with diluted fertilizer. Continue to fertilize it about once a month with 50% diluted fertilizer in winter, twice a month in the growing season. You can add rooting hormone powder to increase its chance of survival when you plant it in soil. Put it in a warm place away from drafts.

This is just a general comment. I have read that if you leave propagation plant in water too long it can be more difficult for it to adjust to going into soil. I've never experienced this but thought it worth considering the next time I do a water propagation.
