Hello plant friends who know way more about propagating house plants than I do. I've had most of these in RO (reverse osmosis) water for almost a month, the first pic has been in water for about 7 weeks. How am I getting little to no roots? I'm so confused. I prop catnip, rosemary, Cuban oregano, and sage this way often with no problems. In a little bit I'm going to put one stem of each into sphagnum moss because I've reached the "why not experiment" stage of frustration. Please throw all your advice at me. Thank you!

Maybe try using RO with tap? Have you fertilized? Or prop drops?

Our tap water has a lot of chlorine (and who knows what else) but I'm willing to try. I've added Super Thrive to the water at some water changes; haven't heard of Prop Drops. I'll look that up. Thank you.

I do see the very beginnings of some fine white roots on the bottom left picture. It takes a while for plants to grow these roots, so after having done this myself many times, I would advise more patience… and maybe some prop drops. Good luck!

Ok, thank you. About how long should I expect them to take?

What kind of plants are they? From what I see they look like Hoya, which in my experience can take a few months to grow substantial roots.

Yes, one is hoya krimson princess. My burtoniae rooted so fast, I think it spoiled me. The others are goldfish plant and jitterbug; I don't know their real names.

From all my prop experience, woody cuts take LONG to root. I wouldn’t give up, just keep the water fresh for oxygenation and rot prevention, keep the environment warm and the humidity high, and just give it more time, the pics don’t show rot or the leaves browning/dying. It seems like you’re on the right path

Ok. Thank you. I keep reading claims that people have lots of roots at 3 or 4 weeks so I felt like I must be missing something. It seems I'm missing patience - which is a theme with me. Haha

😊 this is def a great way to flex that patient muscle but to me, I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong, good luck and post some pics when they root
