My daughter gave me a few Philodendron Florida cuttings her coworker gifted her. (she’s intimidated by anything philodendron or monstera lol) No visible roots and the nodes are on the small side… Any advice is appreciated 🌱🪴💚

Try putting it in water! That's pretty much my only method. Put the nodes in and pray LOL

Your friend's Philodendron Florida cutting can successfully root and grow with a bit of care and patience. Here’s how to help the cutting develop roots and thrive: ### Propagating the Philodendron Florida Cutting: #### Option 1: Water Propagation 1. **Prepare the Cutting:** - Ensure the cutting has at least one node, as this is where the roots will develop. - Remove any leaves that are too close to the base to avoid them sitting in water and rotting. 2. **Place in Water:** - Place the cutting in a clean jar or glass of water, ensuring the node is submerged but not the leaves. - Use room-temperature water and place the container in a spot with bright, indirect light. 3. **Change Water Regularly:** - Change the water every few days or at least once a week to keep it fresh and prevent bacterial growth. 4. **Wait for Roots:** - It may take a few weeks for roots to start developing. Once they are about 2-3 inches long, the cutting is ready to be potted. #### Option 2: Soil Propagation 1. **Prepare the Soil:** - Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a mix of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark. - Moisten the soil slightly before planting the cutting. 2. **Plant the Cutting:** - Make a small hole in the soil and insert the node of the cutting. Gently press the soil around it to secure it in place. - Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. 3. **Cover for Humidity:** - You can cover the pot with a plastic bag or a clear plastic container to create a mini greenhouse effect, which increases humidity and encourages root growth. Ensure there is some ventilation to prevent mold. 4. **Wait for Growth:** - Place the pot in bright, indirect light and be patient. It may take several weeks for the cutting to establish roots and show new growth. ### After Care: - **Light:** Provide bright, indirect light to encourage growth. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. - **Watering:** For water propagation, keep an eye on the water level. For soil propagation, keep the soil moist but not soaked. - **Humidity:** Philodendrons enjoy higher humidity, so mist the cutting occasionally or keep it near a humidifier. ### Signs of Success: - In water propagation, you'll see roots starting to emerge from the node. In soil propagation, new leaves will start to grow, indicating that roots have formed. Once the cutting has established roots, it can be potted in a regular potting mix and cared for like a mature Philodendron. With a bit of patience and the right conditions, your friend should see success in propagating their Philodendron Florida cutting!
