Make sure you give it time to let the cut edge callus over before putting it into water so that it doesn’t rot.

I let mine callous for several weeks and it still went soft and rotted. I’ve read these aren’t as easy to propagate as everyone says
1 mi piaceAhhhh that’s a shame x will see how it goes. If I get anywhere with it I’ll keep ya updated !

Yeah lmk for sure! I was disappointed cause I got everything else I wanted to propagate to grow water roots except for my snake plant cutting
1 mi piaceA few tips- like someone already said let it callous before putting it in water. This usually takes a day at most I believe. Make sure you change the water weekly. Bacteria can start to grow if you just let the water sit for weeks, which can start to rot the cutting and prevent growth. You can also try using some root starter for faster results!
1 mi piaceI would actually say it takes a day minimum. Some take weeks to callus fully
2 Mi piaceAh yeah that makes sense. I haven’t actually propagated snake plants specifically, and most of the stuff I have propagated has callused pretty quickly. Good to know :)

I usually just stick mine right back into soil and let it sit there. I have about a 75% success rate propogating snake plants this way
3 Mi piaceThese are super hard to propogate! I saw so much conflicting info on the internet about propagating these. I only had success with a super thin cutting, the rest of my cuttings ended up rotting (even after I let them callus for 5 days before putting them in water). You have to worry about bacteria in the water rotting the cuttings but also rooting cuttings release some hormone that encourages root growth so it’s a balance of leaving the water and changing it out
0 Mi piaceI tried propagating in water and it took months to get teeny tiny roots. I moved it over perlite & water with a few other cutting and am already seeing roots in a few weeks. I’ve read that using perlite helps the roots adjust going back into soil better than water.
2 Mi piaceI’ll give that a go for nice I’ve started the water stage I recon
