How long have they been in water? Zz’s take forever to propagate. Are the temps outside/the window area they’re in cold? If so, that can slow down root growth.

Oooo thank you! I would say Zz plant is maybe 1.5 months & the marbled pothos 1 month? But there are limited if not no signs at al of propagation - I can put them near a window and radiator to keep warmer? Or just a window?

I wouldn’t put them near a radiator because it might burn them. They’ll just grow roots slower. As long as the stems are firm, I would just continue water propagating them. As the weather warms up, the root growing process may speed up.

Thank you! Does the cutting look okay?

As long as the bottom of the stem is firm, it should be ok.

ZZs take waaaayyyyyyy longer than expected - I got a cutting in July 2023 and it’s just put out its first true stem this year. keep with it!!!

I love using perlite & water for propagating. And good light. Most of the time I use my grow lights. It can still take a while tho 😊

Thank you! How long do they normally take to show some promising signs?

Do you see any roots growing yet off the nodes after the month? Cuz that will give you an idea how long it might take. I like to have the an inch or two on the secondary roots before repotting. So it can take a while. And I like using perlite because it helps the roots transfer to soil better.

This picture is from when I chopped & propped this in November. It’s still not quite ready to be potted up. But it’s getting there 😊 It’s starting to put out new growth leaves. So I’m gonna check the roots in the next couple weeks to see if it’s ready. 😊

It looks like you're doing it right! Sometimes cuttings just take a bit to grow :)

You have nodes, they look healthy. They can really be slow, especially if it's chilly out or the daylight is shorter

I don’t change the water on my Pothos but I add more water when it get low, and I also grow a Zz corm from a leaf in perlite and took long but had no luck in water
