   I would let the roots grow in water a little longer until there really multiple 1/2-1 inch. The cutting also provided you with at least 4 separate plants. Cut each baby and let the roots (not the leaves) grow. I like to fill a cup with water and put plastic wrap over it and cut small holes to put each cutting in. Spider plants are great because they just keep giving!!

   I agree with Hannah that the plants need to be separated from the “umbilical” stem to begin propagating. You can start them in water, soil, moss, perlite or other medium. Spider plants grow well in all of them. I prefer using soil because they adapt quickly and continues to root. Plus, I don’t have to disturb the roots by changing to soil later because I start in soil, a little benefit. I add rooting hormone powder to boost the roots. I let the soil dry down below the roots before watering the propagations again. Repot when the roots fill up the start pot. Fertilize with diluted fertilizer at least once a month. I grew some in direct morning light in summer as shown. I would filter the light in a south or west window. Grow lights one foot away works. Run the light 12-14 hours a day.🪴🍀
