I am trying to propagate a aglaonema commutatum, better known as a Chinese Evergreen “pink dalmatian”. Notice that there is some kind of silky, fuzzy cloud at the bottom of the branch that has the node and the stem growing out of the very bottom of it on the left-hand side. I have taken that off once already, and remove some of the mushy bottom. My problem is that I don’t know if this is good or bad??? Can anyone tell me what to do? TXS

All i know is that this isn’t good…a couple of my propagations do this and i don’t know how to get rid of it 😭😭 but always make sure to let the tip of the cutting dry over or it will rot maybe we aren’t changing the water very often 🤔

Oohhhhh! I didn’t let the stem of the plant dry out! When I took it out of the water, the bottom of the stem was mushy and I took the mushy part off. Now, I imagine, it’ll only continue to get worse. Is there anyway I can clear this up? If I take the stem out to dry then the little root will die, right? I feel like I’m caught between a rock and a hard place and I don’t know what to do. I had such high hopes for this beautiful plant. HELP!!!

if you let the plant sit out for maybe a couple hours the plant won’t die it will have enough water stored up it will be totally good to go!! what i would do is take it out, take off all the mushy stuff then let it sit for a couple hours then put it back in!! :) i hope this helps

I really appreciate your time. I am so anxious for this plant to survive, but I’m only used to propagating philodendrons and that is quite a bit different. Thanks so much!☺️

if it has a filmy, gelatinous texture and is only cloudy in the middle, it might be a beneficial bacteria. i had something similar form on some pothos cuttings and it boosted their growth. as long as your stems are firm i think it should be fine

Seems like rot. Sorry. You could trim back to a healthy portion and give it a wipe off with some hydrogen peroxide (diluted). I would recommend a new clean glass with new water. You could also allow your plants if they’re salvageable to be propped still to sit out and dry for a half day (depending on how sensitive this plant is) it may allow the cut end to heal up. Some plants benefit a lot from this
