Was checking in on my pothos props and saw this curious thing happening. Looks like a root or something popping out of this node!! Anyone have an idea of what this growth could be? Questionable root is at the pointer finger and the water line was about where my thumb is in the second pic.

That’s its new growth point pushing out. It’s going to put out new leaves from there.

Oh wow really!! So cool! I didn’t know they could grow the stem during root development!

Agreed with Greenleaf, that’s 100% a new stem/leaf growing! Just below the green growth is a root node that seems to be pushing out the tip of a new root as well. I’d call that a successful propagation so far!

Thank you! I didn’t see the new root growing either! Pothos’ can grow their roots when that node isn’t under water? I guess the areal node bumps must be just enough to keep it going!

They can! They’ll grow their root nodes into anything damp/moist, which is why they’ll climb a moss pole if the moss is kept moist. In this case, perhaps the water being nearby provided enough humidity/moisture to “activate” the root node.

Thank you!!! The other cuttings all have roots going on them but this is the only one that doesn’t but has a new growth on it.

A little trick I learned is when propagating a pothos stick another tiny piece of pothos with a node into the same water and it enhances growth faster! Pothos have a natural chemical that enhances growth for any plant when put together! I’ve used this method for all of my propagations and it’s worked every time along with fertilizer in the water

I’ve heard that too!! So I put them in with some basil that had just started rooting and a thanksgiving cactus cutting. I’ve also heard that just to top up the water so that you keep all the good rooting chemicals in there. I wonder if you keep that water if you can use it to prop other plants as like a starter. 🤔🤔🤔 I have some polka dot props I’m working on but I find they like to be under a humidity dome to root successfully.
