Hi, it’s my first time trying to grow avocados from seed. I have two seeds in water, I have found instructions how to sprout avocados in water. But one of them has Cracks in it, the other one looks kind of shriveled up.

I’m doing that too! I’ve placed it the opposite way though lol anyways this is my first time and mines a little further along. We started the seed about a month ago and it started cracking about 2 weeks ago. I haven’t done anything other than have it in bright light and change the water every few days. It has about a half inch root starting!

2 Mi piaceThank you! I started them a week ago, but that’s strange because they aren’t supposed to until 2 weeks. Maybe it’s because I put them under a grow light with my future garden plants?

The best way to start an avocado seed that I have found, is to soak it in water for a few hours, take the skin off. Do the paper towel method until it grows roots/sprouts, then put in water.

I find that putting them in water first takes so much longer to root.

I experimented with this also and found that the only way I could grow and keep one alive was to plant the seed directly into soil and keep it wet. When I water started them they either never sprouted or took 2 or more months to sprout then died within 2 weeks of germinating.
