In the winter I started having class plants that are spider plants to be able to give my students a plant at the end of the year. Today I noticed this stem seems to be bending and brown. Will the spiderettes still grow through this? If I have to cut them off would any of them possibly be able to survive? It’s one solid one but I don’t see nodes and 2 just still beginning it seems….

It may be difficult to propagate if they are too young. They do better if there are aerial roots. You can try putting the stem in water ensuring one or two nodes are underwater. Remove all leaves below the water line to prevent leaf rot from contaminating the water. There’s a very small chance it will grow new roots. The good thing is the mother plant will put out more stems. 🪴🍀
