I got an albo cutting from a nursery across the country and I am trying to help it flourish. It is a beautiful plant with big beautiful leaves but the short air root it came with got mushy in water, worsened mushy in sphegmum + perlite, so I snipped it and am trying stratum. Any thoughts from y’all on this propagation method? All my research seems to support particularly monstera prop’s doing really really well in stratum. …

I just got a Thai Con from Florida. I’m in Cali and it’s currently doing horribly as it adapts to the lower humidity, etc. Are you sure your plant isn’t just getting over shipping stress and acclimating to new environment?

The root mush is unlikely to be acclimating, as far as i understand. It is hanging in there pretty well, just praying that the node produces roots with the aerial root cut back so severely. I also have humidifier’s in the same room and i think the glass jar should help the humidity. The cutting came from New York- sit the humidity is a good observation. Thank you for bringing it up.

My Albo cutting didn’t like having the aerial root in water and it started to rot. Does it have a node? You usually find an aerial root near a node. The stem should only need to be in water up to the node. You can mist the aerial root but not submerge in water.

I had heard that about albo’s not liking water any higher than the node. I currently have it in stratum to the node. The aerial root is cut back to flush with the stem because of root rot. I have heard so many different thoughts on water propagation and have heard that the albo generally does not like water propagation. And after my experience with this guy i am leaning towards agreeing that water prop is not the best for the albos.
