Leafy

Attempting my first snake plant propagation in soil, I may have left them too long - I let the ends heal for a week then promptly forgot them for another week so I’m hoping that won’t cause any issues😅 I think 3/5 of them are strong candidates for a positive outcome anyway. Fingers crossed for positive results in a month or twos time 🌱.

I am trying to prop a snake in water, will roots come out of the bottom or will it just soften and be ready to plant?

They’ll come out of the bottom and maybe even a pup. You can move them to soil once the roots are ~2 inches long. I haven’t had any luck propagating in water though.. they always end up rotting. I just stick them straight in soil

I’m new to propagating, how long will it take for your freshly planted snakes above to produce a whole new “leaf” (large pokey pointy). Do you do anything besides water?

Personally I’m just using water to keep the soil moist, planting direct into soil can take longer compared to water propagation but I wanted to avoid any transplant shock later down the line. There are ways to use rooting hormone to shorten the timeframe but I didn’t have any at the time. I’m not sure when it will produce a whole leaf but it is likely to be a few months or more.

Can someone help me understand the point or reasoning behind letting the cut heal over for a day (or week??) before putting in water (or soil?). Will this help my outcomes?

I think letting the leaf callous is to avoid it absorbing too much moisture and leading to rot, but mainly I was just following a guide so I’m not completely sure😅 I have lost one of the cuttings so it’s not full proof but it does increase the chances of avoiding rot.
