I would buy a tree to start. Apple seeds generally don’t grow true to type meaning you won’t necessarily get the same tasting apple than the one you ate but you’ll still grow an apple tree if that’s the goal.

I collected the seeds when I cut an apple and wrapped them in wet paper towel and put them in the fridge until they sprouted roots. I transferred them to dirt and they did rly well. They grew to about 3 inches! Then I forgot to water them a couple times and they died😭😭. I hope it goes better for you!

It’s not worth growing grocery variety from seeds. I’d purchase a tree for a few reasons, from seed it most likely would require two trees for cross pollination, you won’t be able to control what fruit it produces (a seed from a honeycrisp apple won’t give you a honeycrisp tree it could even be a totally different color variety you can even end up with crab apples) you also won’t know the size. Many trees you purchase at big box stores are dwarf or semi dwarf variety. Now if you’re just trying to have some fun and don’t mind what you get you can follow what CJ said and germinate in the fridge transplant to a pot and water til about 4-5ft and trans plant if recommended keeping two for cross pollination. I have two dwarf apple trees that I adore. I also recommend not allowing the tree to bear fruit its first few years (3-4) once it’s mature enough to flower simply pluck it. The tree will mature much quicker and your apple quality will be much better.
