Help!! I am trying to water propagation. Have tradescantia Nanouk put cuttings in water, rain water, stems rotting-soft. No roots. Don’t usually have any problems with water prop. Thanks

Try letting it callous before putting it in water, leave it out for 1-2 days

0 J'aimeYou can also take a dab of super glue to the end of the cutting as well.

I have not had much luck with water prop for tradescantia— but they root quickly when placed directly into soil
1 j'aimeI’ve propagated tradescantia in water, soil and in a ziplock bag with a damp paper towel. It is easier to propagate in soil. Just trim off the dead stem, rinse with hydrogen peroxide, let them dry a couple of hours and stick them in the soil. Use a pencil or chopstick to poke the hole. Watering will backfill the hole with soil. You can use rooting hormone powder to help stimulate the roots to grow. It takes a couple of weeks for the roots to grow out. The roots are thread thin. So, don’t pull out the cutting. Let the soil dry out an inch before watering. Add SuperThrive plant vitamins and diluted fertilizer every 2 weeks.
1 j'aimeI agree with the others, propagate in soil instead of water! I have these growing all over my yard falling out of the pots, covering the ground like leaves because when they break off they just keep growing and don’t stop!! No water prop needed for this crazy regrowth, drop them on the ground or into a pot and let them do their thing lol
2 J'aimeThanks for the advice.
0 J'aimeI agree with soil prop . I take cuttings from mine to make it fuller & just put them down in the dirt . They root pretty fast.
