I never have any luck propagating succulents, no matter what I try they just get mushy, shrivel, and turn black. Is it possible to use rooting hormone on succulents? Any advice on what I may be doing wrong is appreciated.

This used to happen to me as well. Then I got a prop tray and moved it inside and then all of a sudden they were taking off. Idk what it was but they just did not do well when outside. Maybe it was too much light?

Thank you, this might be the problem since I’ve had them outside so far. I’ll try moving them in and see how it goes.

Don’t water them is my advice. In the wild these will fall off and roll away or whatever and just send out roots wherever they land looking for water. Let them look for a while!

I work in a greenhouse, and I soak our propagations every morning. I mean, SOAK. Granted, it’s super bright in there lol. But I find that the babies need a lot of water depending on the amount of light, all of ours look great right now. 🤷‍♀️

I mist mine about once every 5-7 days.

Hello, I kid you not, nor kid any kid, my succulent leaf propagation stopped doing what yours are doing when I discovered a leaf behind the couch rooting into the carpet. 😳😧😲🙄 {Not the carpet story again} You see I must have knocked a leaf off while opening and closing the drapes. Open and close. Open and close. Then one day I had to get a cat toy that went too far under the couch, way back where all cat toys disappear to until a couch is moved. When I moved that couch I was shocked to see a succulent leaf, with a pup, rooted into my carpet. Now there may have been a half peanut and one cheese-it cracker also on the carpet, but they were no where near the pup. So the help that I could provide to this leaf in order for it to propagate and survive was to provide it with no help. And all the other leaves that I was helping. Well I was helping them to the trash is all I was helping. Now I do nothing. Leaves fall off? I chuck them in a pot and say… Good luck guys. See ya!
