I am new to succulents and have never tried propagating them. I had two of my potted plants drop leaves and it appears than one of them has already started to take root. I would love for both of them to propagate if possible but not sure what to do to encourage them. I moved both of them to a small pot with cactus soil but haven’t given them water since moving them. The leaf in the left is a Coppertone or Adolph sedum and the one on the right is a Topsy Turvy echeveria. Do they need any special attention? I just have them in a small plastic pot with drain holes but don’t know how frequent to water them since one has a tiny root and the other is just a leaf.

i’d just set them on top of the soil and let them do their thing. my coppertone drops leaves from time to time in the windowsill and they root right there if i don’t see them to sweep them away. don’t overthink it! succs are good at this, leave them to it

Should I mist or water the soil from time to time or wait until they actually take root? I know too much water actually can prevent them from rooting because they don’t have to “search” for moisture.

They do better laying flat on top of the soil and left alone. They put out an offshoot which lives off the mother leaf until they can secure their roots. A light mist one a week won’t hurt. I’ve found they don’t even need that.

these are some I pulled out of the windowsill from behind my coppertone last week — i certainly wasn’t misting them 😂 like sunny said - that little baby plant at the end of the leaf will use the resources stored in the leaf until the roots have made good contact with soil. they’re very efficient!

Depending on what you are trying to propagate , I use the same method for succulents every time . Like everybody else said I would just lay them on the top of the soil and mist them once a week. I do a light mist every other morning for mine but either of these methods will do fine I’m sure! As long as it has some moisture and high enough light to encourage root growth but not burning . Hope this helps!
