Cut right below a node (where the leafs come out of a knot) and place in water.

I don’t know how to find a node. I don’t even know if I know what a node is yet. I’m so new to this.

Sorry!! Yes where that leaf if connect to the stem and it’s a little thinker then the rest of the stem is a node. Cut right below that then you can just place it in water until it starts growing roots. I usually wait for the roots to be at least an inch before potting it.

the bottom of the node where you cut is closest to the main rooted plant not the end of the vine. This id mine

Hi there! This actually isn’t an ivy, it’s a tradescantia zebrina, a member of the spiderwort family. Found this image on google to help clarify where the nodes are. You can cut between them to propagate.

My fave plants to propagate & I have many! They’re very fast to root in water! Simple as: Cut, Soak, Wait, Repot! 💜 Plant is also called the SILVER INCH. 😜

You can use a cutting with at least two leaf nodes since the root nodes are close to the leaf nodes. Two easy ways to propagate: Soil or water. Soil- Poke a narrow hole in the soil with a pencil or a chopstick. Put one cutting in the hole. Remove all leaves that will be buried to prevent root rot and bacterial infection. I typically dip the end in rooting hormone powder first. The pencil hole will gradually fill with soil around the cutting as you water. So, don’t make a wide hole. Fertilize when the roots appear in about 2 weeks. A gentle tug will confirm the roots have grown out. Water - Put one end of the cutting in clean water that covers a node. Cut the leaves that are underneath. Fertilize when the roots appear in about 2 weeks. Plant when the leaves are at least 2 inches per the soil planting instructions. The roots are delicate. Ziplock Bag- Alternatively, you can use a one gallon ziplock freezer bag to propagate several cuttings. Add the cuttings. Add a couple of tablespoons of water and mist. Blow air into the bag. Seal the bag for two weeks. Keep in bright indirect sunlight or under a 12 hour grow light. Open the bag in two weeks to mist, if needed, and blow in fresh air. Add 1 tablespoon of liquid fertilizer. Reseal the bag like a balloon. The roots will be ready after the cuttings are the bag for a month. Just remove, dip in rooting hormone powder and plant per the above soil instructions. 🪴🍀
