Hi guys! I’m planning to propagate my monstera this spring because it’s growing in so many different directions! Will I have better luck if I pick the larger, stronger stems to propagate or the smaller, thinner ones? Either way I’m excited for this plant to be more of a manageable size

Wow! What a beauty! I’d go with the larger ones.

Thank you! I think I might be starting with one of the ones growing sideways which is nice and chunky

I think that sounds like a great idea! And get that beauty a moss pole or build her a teepee with 3 stakes and tie them together at the top, which will make the teepee. Just an idea that I’ve seen done before.

I’ve bought two different types of moss poles for preparation!

personally i wouldn’t cut this thing at all. just detangle the root mass and pot them all so that the leaves are facing out and the aerial roots face the support, either together or separately. i wouldn’t put more than two of them together though, since they look like mature stems. could we see pictures of the whole plant?

Here’s an aerial view! The leaves keep getting broken because it’s growing in so many directions, I’d like to add some support to it but I really don’t know if I can support the whole plant without it taking over my entire house

if the plant is too large, you could always pot a few stems together for yourself and give the rest away. monstera do have to be split or trimmed regularly if you want to keep it at a smaller size, since they’re such fast growing plants. pruning the damaged foliage will also help reduce its size and help more light reach the healthier leaves

You could also cut trim it back so it’s more manageable. Cutting off all the damaged and small leaves.

My monstera was similar to this but a lot larger…dragging on the floor…I cleaned her up and staked her with 3 stakes as TreseaB suggested…once I did that she took off! I have the space for her though…she is 7 1/2 foot tall now 😀
