Hi! I recently received a huge monstera cutting! When i was driving home it ended up freezing in the car (it was -16 f outside). 2/3 of the leaves couldn’t recover from the cold but 1 leave held strong! it was doing ok but now it’s turning dry and I’m not sure what to do! It’s not rooted yet. Any and all advice would be welcomed!!! Thank you in advance!

From my experience of plants getting shocked from cold temperatures , the black dots you see and the “browning” is dead cells. Unfortunately after that’s happens there is no recovering from it as this process takes a couple of days to do. But, as in saving it you can chop the leaf completely off and make sure the node you save in the propagation, downside the plant looses tons of energy that the leaf would provide. Upside cutting the leaf off can help the plant focus more energy on the roots to create that system. I’m no crazy expert but from my experience!

I'd clip the leaf and either prop the 'wet stick' In the water. Or pot it in spaphagum.

Although the leaf does look quite bad, I'd be tempted to leave it at least for a little while. If there's any chlorophyll in it that can produce any energy would be helpful to the plant. However, if it's turning too mushy it's better to get rid of it. As for the remaining stem, I think I would choose the sphagnum Moss or another light draining medium and plant it very shallow. It'll probably take some doing to keep it moist but not over moist. Maybe dust the underside with a little rooting hormone to encourage root development. And then pray!
