Question time!! When propagating, do you put anything additional in the water to help its growth? just spitballing here, like rice water or sugar or whatever… not that I know of any of those would work? I have an avocado seed that refuses to sprout and other plants that just aren’t rooting at all…

I put a drop or two of hydrogen peroxide in there to keep things from getting slimy… sometimes move things that are rooting into containers w stuff that’s stubborn when I change the water, but that’s anecdotal. I just think the rooting hormone one puts out might help the other.

A pothos cutting. Pothos produce a rooting hormone that will help jumpstart just about anything that will root in water…they are natures fertility drug…

I’ve tried that. How long does it usually take?

Depends on the plant, some start to root within days, some take weeks…also depends on how it’s cut etc…google is your best friend for these things

Do you dip the tip of the cutting in the powder or do you add it directly to the water??

i keep either pothos, tradescantia, or spider plant cuttings in my prop bin at all times so that everyone else in there gets a boost from the rooting hormone these quick-growing plants produce. a bit of hydrogen peroxide can help stave off algae and aerate things, as long as you only put a drop or two of 3% strength per cup of water. too much and the chemical will begin to “eat” your cuttings.
