Whatâs proplifting?
1 j'aimeThere's like 2 versions, the most common is that people take discarded cuttings found disattattatched to the plant and the other where a person physically takes part of a plant that's still attached to the plant.
0 J'aimeSo one type they're cleaning up debris and the other type they're stealing if they don't have permission! ..... I'm just joking lest anyone get offended.
0 J'aimeI grew all my succulents in middle and highschool from discarded cuttings so in my opinion as long as it's not attached to the plant I'm all for it. It doesn't impact the plants people buy and the sellers all that much so I'm for it
3 J'aimeI think it depends. If itâs a place that sells props, then I think itâs stealing. If they donât sell props and youâre taking pieces that have already fallen off, Iâd consider that cleaning up their trash if theyâd just throw them away/sweep them up. Depends on their business model I guess.
0 J'aimeYeah I never take them from my local nursery because of that but I take fallen ones from Home Depot because they dont grow their own plants and will just throw them away
4 J'aimeI think taking them off a plant is stealing and damaging property but if itâs on the ground then theyâre just going to throw it away
0 J'aimei take discarded succulent leaves allllll the time. best case scenario, i get a free plant. worst case, i donât. no one gets hurt đ€·ââïž
2 J'aimeits an âšïž eco friendly âšïž adventure! plus if its a big box store like walmart or home depot i doubt it hurts anyone
3 J'aimeoh for sure, i donât think iâd feel comfortable doing it if it was a small personal plant shop. but big box stores are fair game
0 J'aimeI recommend asking the owner of the store/plant before taking their property. Their business is to sell the plant and not provide cutting donations. I canât assume they want me to help them clean up. I can use that mind set to help them clean up bruised or broken items in the storeâs other departments.
3 J'aimethis is a wonderful way of explaining it. especially as a small business, we canât allow people to just take cuttings. there wouldnât be a store if everyone took cuttings instead. iâm so thankful when people give me a broken leaf or stem that iâve maybe missed while checking on everything, rather than taking it. i just think it would suck to not be welcome to shop at a plant store over a cutting. browse consciously.
2 J'aimeI take fallen succulent leaves and propagate them from Home Depot. I asked an employee and he said it was fine to do.
2 J'aimeI feel like if it's lying on the ground or in bin, it's trash.
0 J'aimeI understand the businesses stance, that basically, it's a plant you then aren't buying from them. But also if you're throwing it in the bin, get fkd, I'm taking it home đ
0 J'aimeAs someone that sells plants, with a huge collection, I wouldn't care If someone came and picked up my trash to prop. But I also understand that not every business sees it that way. And if someone has "no prop-lifting" signs I respect that.
