What’s proplifting?
1 me gustaThere's like 2 versions, the most common is that people take discarded cuttings found disattattatched to the plant and the other where a person physically takes part of a plant that's still attached to the plant.
0 Me gustaSo one type they're cleaning up debris and the other type they're stealing if they don't have permission! ..... I'm just joking lest anyone get offended.
0 Me gustaI grew all my succulents in middle and highschool from discarded cuttings so in my opinion as long as it's not attached to the plant I'm all for it. It doesn't impact the plants people buy and the sellers all that much so I'm for it
3 Me gustaI think it depends. If it’s a place that sells props, then I think it’s stealing. If they don’t sell props and you’re taking pieces that have already fallen off, I’d consider that cleaning up their trash if they’d just throw them away/sweep them up. Depends on their business model I guess.
0 Me gustaYeah I never take them from my local nursery because of that but I take fallen ones from Home Depot because they dont grow their own plants and will just throw them away
4 Me gustaI think taking them off a plant is stealing and damaging property but if it’s on the ground then they’re just going to throw it away
0 Me gustai take discarded succulent leaves allllll the time. best case scenario, i get a free plant. worst case, i don’t. no one gets hurt 🤷♀️
2 Me gustaits an ✨️ eco friendly ✨️ adventure! plus if its a big box store like walmart or home depot i doubt it hurts anyone
3 Me gustaoh for sure, i don’t think i’d feel comfortable doing it if it was a small personal plant shop. but big box stores are fair game
0 Me gustaI recommend asking the owner of the store/plant before taking their property. Their business is to sell the plant and not provide cutting donations. I can’t assume they want me to help them clean up. I can use that mind set to help them clean up bruised or broken items in the store’s other departments.
3 Me gustathis is a wonderful way of explaining it. especially as a small business, we can’t allow people to just take cuttings. there wouldn’t be a store if everyone took cuttings instead. i’m so thankful when people give me a broken leaf or stem that i’ve maybe missed while checking on everything, rather than taking it. i just think it would suck to not be welcome to shop at a plant store over a cutting. browse consciously.
2 Me gustaI take fallen succulent leaves and propagate them from Home Depot. I asked an employee and he said it was fine to do.
2 Me gustaI feel like if it's lying on the ground or in bin, it's trash.
0 Me gustaI understand the businesses stance, that basically, it's a plant you then aren't buying from them. But also if you're throwing it in the bin, get fkd, I'm taking it home 😆
0 Me gustaAs someone that sells plants, with a huge collection, I wouldn't care If someone came and picked up my trash to prop. But I also understand that not every business sees it that way. And if someone has "no prop-lifting" signs I respect that.
