Wanted to share an update on my jade propagations from my 30 year old jade plant. These have been propagated in wet perlite for about 2 weeks. I’d definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a faster option to propagation than water or soil propagation. My current debate is if I should add these props to the already rooted pot with my previous set of props, or let it form its own jade plant 🤔

Very nice! I lean toward lush and full myself, but I’m sure they would look great in a wee pot of their own.

Thanks for the input! 😊 here’s the plant I’m considering adding the new props too. This plant, as well as the new props, are from the same 30 year old jade plant. I’ll be giving the current plant a bigger pot to fit all the props, of course ☺️

I’d add them to this grouping. Wow! Now I want to prop some of my jade. It’s a baby in comparison. I’d love to find one as old as yours.

My 30 year old jade is my mother’s, technically (I’m only 20 😂). And the 30 year old is a cutting from my grandmother’s 60+ year old jade plant. If you’d like to see a really old jade, here’s HER jade. (For reference, the jade’s about 3 1/2 ft tall 😂) Mom’s cutting was a gift from her mother when she bought her first home, but I was placed in charge of its care a few years back 😊

This is a jade I’m hoping to turn into her giant jade. I’m gonna guess she was around 2-5 years old when I bought her back in May.

How often did you water the perlite?

It depends on how long it takes for the perlite to dry out. It took about 10-12 days for mine, but the trick is to wait until the perlite dries out before watering it again, and taking it out of the perlite every 15 days or so to check on root development. I’ve found the easiest method is to propagate it in soil after dipping the cuttings in Bonide’s Rooting Hormone Powder to speed up the root development process.
