Can this ginger root be propagated in any way? If so, please explain how. I would love to grow my own ginger!

Yup! You can break it apart if you want, but you don’t have to. I like putting it on perlite or sphagnum, but soil would probably work too. Just nestle it in a little, but not covered. Water when the top layer is dry

Thank you for replying! How big should the pieces be? I don’t remove skin right? I will put it on top of spag moss. How wet do I keep the moss? I heard to soak it then ring it out, mist daily or cover with a humidity dome and mist every 3 days? What do you suggest?

If you want to split them, I would cut where I’ve marked the picture. Then let the open cuts dry until tomorrow. I think daily misting is probably unnecessary for ginger. They seem to be more sensitive to overwatering than to low humidity. So you definitely want the moss to dry a little between watering, but not completely if you can help it. Soaking and then wringing out is good for the initial setup. And right, don’t remove the skin

Okay last two questions: 1) Turns out I only have perlite, how wet do I get that, should I try the soak and wring then mist method? Finally, after I make the cut, do I put cut end facing down on the perlite or what? Oops one more question: how long til you think I’ll see roots and do you think it’s okay for me to pic it up once in a while to check, or do not disturb?

Yup, you can do the wet and squeeze method with perlite too. I would place it down the same way you have it in the picture. The first shoots will come out of the smaller bumps along the side. It may grow shoots before roots, since the ginger tuber itself is like a root. I picked mine up to check a lot when I first tried this. Didn’t seem to bother the plant. Just be gentle in case a root has started to form so it doesn’t accidentally get snapped

I just stuck mine under some soil, and it started growing. Granted, it took a while for any sprouts to appear! Just be patient.

Let the cut ends callous before planting to prevent bacterial infections. I have also put it directly to soil. They need a o be in warmer temperatures and part shade while growing. I plant turmeric (curcuma) too. They produce beautiful flowers like ginger and are low maintenance.

How long to callous? And thank you for replying to all of my many posts, Sunny!

It should take a day or two for the cut sections to dry.

It takes 2 to 3 weeks for the ginger to sprout
