One of my coworkers gave me a cutting of their leopard lily and I don’t know how to go forward with propagating it or putting it directly into soil. Does anyone have any tips on what to do because I want to go about this the best and smartest way possible

Perfect! As long as you end up giving it some support upwards, it will root perfectly

This will root in soil or water. I prefer to cut and put back into soil as it grows. But when I sell them I do root them in water only. This is one of mine.
