I was gifted this randomly. Planta says it’s a jade plant. Confused how to plant or keep this in water. Doesn’t really have roots and it makes a “U” shape. Should I hang it off the side of a glass or try to plant it like this? Then the leaves on the end will likely die?

I'd prune lower leaves then hang it over the edge

Then I'd probably try and prop the leaves I pruned (if they're healthy)

I see people putting leave cuttings in a damp paper towel is that what you mean?

Take off a few leaves from the bottom, dip in rooting hormone, and propagate it in distilled water. It will grow fairly quickly!

I don't believe rooting hormone is effective in water because it washes off of the stem. And root stimulator also does not work unless there are existing roots.

      Not true at all 🙂!

I am more inclined to propagate in soil, especially succulents. That piece you could trim into several pieces and put them in soil using the rooting hormone. You could also use the leaf method.

So maybe cut it into thirds and plant? Remove the leaves from the portion inserted into the soil likely. It doesn’t need to sit in water first to grow roots?

With Jade you simply stick it in some soil and it will root and grow on its own. Super easy. I have never had to use any supplemental root hormone or anything when it comes to Jade.

If I cut off the leaves should I let it callus and dry out first?

For the part I put into the soil.

Hi Garrett. Yes. You can let them sit for a few days. They say 3 - 7 days. I have even let them sit longer than a week at times because they are remarkably resilient and seem to thrive with the most minimal of effort!
