Birkin is growing roots from “inside” instead of bottom. Is this normal or a bad sign?

I would maybe gently see if I can slide them out and if not see what happens as it grows. If you notice any stress on the plant you can chop them and let them regrow.

Thank you! Yeah I thought it was super weird 😂

My non-climbing philodendrons tend to do this. The roots come from the nodes, but since the space between nodes is so small, it can get covered by leaf stems

The cutting has lots of leaves and long stems. The plant is trying to generate roots to support all that. The cut surfaces look rotten. I would sacrifice a leaf to expose the new roots and root nodes. It will free the roots and cut off one of the energy draining leaf. 🍀🪴

Should I cut the surfaces?? I was thinking of pulling off the outer leaves
