I had left it out to dry before… but it ended up rotting on one side anyway. So I cut that bit off but now there’s a bit of red??? Do they have blood? It’s a monstera cutting btw. Or maybe there’s a bug crawling inside it??

Hi there, I think that’s probably part of the rot. You might have success propping it but it’s very possible it won’t be salvageable. Fingers crossed though!

A reddish or brownish color inside a cut stem is often a sign of rot or disease. It’s unlikely that a bug is causing the red color inside the stem. Most pests (like aphids, spider mites, or mealybugs) are visible on the outside of the plant and do not cause internal red discoloration. If you don’t see any insects crawling out or around the cutting, it’s almost certainly rot.

I cut all the red off… there’s still a node so it should be fine right???

Yes, you did the right thing by cutting off all the red, discolored parts. As long as there’s still a healthy node left, your cutting should be fine and has a good chance of rooting and growing. Just make sure the remaining tissue is firm and green, and let the cutting callus over before placing it in water or soil. Keep an eye out for any new signs of rot. Good luck! Your plant should be on the road to recovery! ❤️‍🩹
