Let them dry out for a couple days so they callous on the end. Get some perlite in that soil and just lay the leaves on top, no need to bury them. Get some water in there every few days to a week, making sure that the tips are moist. Once you see at least two good roots that are at least an inch, you’re good to plant back into soil.
4 LikesHurry up and wait. Just leave them that way until you see babies. Once the babies are starting to grow roots, bury them a bit. It is a long process!

I also found out that squirrels like succulents this summer 🙄 I imagine they taste like cucumbers lol but who knows 😂
2 LikesI had to barricade my garden last year from the squirrels and my dog running through and burrowing.

the best way to prop succulents in my experience is to just forget about them. the water stored in the leaf will be used to create roots and a baby plant eventually. i typically drop leaf cuttings on top of the main plant’s soil and leave them until they root. extended periods of drought will help the roots develop

This is what I do as well. I find it actually takes longer for a new succulent to fully develop in moist soil. I just let a leaf cutting sit on a shelf under a grow light for a few months until the old leaf shrivels away.
