how do I cut my pothos to stick in water to propagate? is there a special way to cut the plant?

Make sure you have at least one node and make sure it’s underwater. That’s the easiest way. But I prefer using a dish of perlite and water. I just lay my propagates on top

Nodes are places where the leaves are coming out of the main branch. When I propagated my Pothos I removed 1 or 2 leaves from the lower half of the branch (creating nodes) and this is where the roots began to grow

You can cut in the middle of the stems in between leaves you will notice a small root coming out of the same place as the leaf, in the picture I circled a few ones so you can understand where the nodes are and in mine you can actually see some big aerial roots sticking out, but yours might not have it

I like to make sure when I cut it that I have at least 3 of those, remove the last leaf and put in water making sure that the roots are touching the water

A node, also known as an aerial root is a place on the plants vines where the plant can produce roots to grab onto trees or if a pc breaks off it’ll root & produce more of itself. Pothos vine, so they attach to trees in the wild.. and grow bigger leaves when they’re growing upwards towards the bright light 😁 My toddler actually snapped off one of my long vines that I’ve been growing & I nearly cried.. but it has some great looking nodes 😁 I trimmed off the end where there weren’t any nodes, let it callous for about an hr (I just like to do that, it helps it not rot in water) then stuck the vine in a vase of water..

I highly recommend letting the ends dry out and “callous” (harden off) before putting them in water. This usually takes a few hours for pothos. It feels scary but keeps them from rotting! Good luck!
