I let my cuttings water propagate for a while until they grow roots, then I move them to soil when the roots look strong. I usually use a small cutting, less than 6 inches

Is it ok that the leaves drop immediately? Do you wait a day for them to callus over?

Did the leaves drop after you put it in water? I haven’t had that happen but I think it would probably be ok as long as there’s still leaves. I don’t usually wait for them to callous over

You could take smaller cuttings from the existing one to try to increase the odds. What’s happening at the bottom? It looks like it’s already got roots

Adding a stake to support it while it acclimates could be helpful!

The leaves started to wilt, then The roots went dark and the water got smelly

A friend gave me this plant and I hate it so much I’m determined to make it thrive. It’s such a fickle plant. They like moist soil so I’m going to get a stay damp pot for it. When the soil was too dry (not bone dry) it dropped leaves. I’ve put it under a grow light and it’s currently in a ceramic pot and seems to be happy and is growing leaves from every node.

I got it from someone that kept it in water, I put it that little vase and I don’t know if it was too small, roots were too cramped, vase not cleaned properly, didn’t get enough light or what, but it drooped and died after about 4 days. This stem was the only survivor
