How big does this baby have to get before I separate her from the mother plant?
Pretty new to plants, but I separated when they were smaller and they’re thriving!
1 likeThat’s plenty big! I wait for them to be at least 2 inches or more. I’ve trimmed nearly 8 pups off my mama plant in the 2 years I’ve had her. I used a sharp paring knife and glide the blade right down the mama’s main stem. If the pup is large enough, it may already have a small root system to handle gently after trimming.
0 likesWait until Spring. I tried to separate a baby from the mother and propagated in water and soil in winter in different years. All failed... probably in the wrong season.
