Hi there! I am new to propagating & trying to get this umbrella tree plant clipping that my mom gave me to root. I have had it in the water in my windowsill for 4 weeks now & nothing has happened. Any recommendations? Thanks 😊

I’ve never propagated this plant.. but I’ve watched YouTube videos of people propagating it & they’d just dropped it in water & changed weekly 🤷🏻‍♀️ Maybe go up a little more & do a fresh cut before dipping in rooting hormone.. trying again? 🤷🏻‍♀️ best of luck 🤞 😁

In my experience, woody stems always take a long time to root. Additionally I’ve heard some say change water weekly, some say changing out the water means you’re removing the naturally produced rooting hormones the plant makes and releases into the water, and thus it is better to top off the water when it is getting low than it is to completely change out all of the water. Dipping the end in rooting hormone can help, but not necessary. Also a rooting fertilizer could also be used, but also not necessary. In my experience, the most needed thing is patience, and it’s free! ☺️

Ah yes, patience is not my strong suit lol but that all makes sense! Thank you!!
