A bouquet of roses I had died, and I noticed it began growing new little leaves. I cut off the dried up roses and left it just as is. I’m continuing to water it occasionally, but I’m a bit lost in what to do exactly. How can I keep him alive?

I would have never considered doing this but it looks like a fun experiment!

Generally, roses propagate better in soil than water. You can increase the chance of getting more roots by cutting the end at a 45 degree angle. Wash the cutting tool and newly cut ends in hydrogen peroxide to kill bacteria. The longer the cut end is exposed to air the greater the chance of air pockets to develop. The air pockets decrease the ability of the stem to take in water. So, trim the ends under water. Also, seal the top cut end with melted wax to stop the loss of moisture. Dip the cut end in rooting hormone powder and immediately bury at least 2 leaf nodes in the soil mix. It could take 6 to 8 weeks to produce roots in soil. I recommend adding SuperThrive plant vitamins to help boost roots. I use it once per month on my plants when I water in winter. I add it to my plants/props growing in water with each water change. Change the water every week or sooner if it’s dirty. Good luck🍀🌹

My parents used to do this when we were kids! You just cut a stem, when it gets new growth just pop it into the ground!
