My past mistakes: Cutting the vines too short without a good leaf node. Sellers typically sell a cutting with only one node to sell more cuttings per plant. Experienced sellers allow sufficient stem around each node. I like to have three nodes on a pothos cutting to put 2 nodes under water to grow more roots. Cutting the vines too long with too many leaves. The cutting needs to send energy to grow new leaves. Excess leaves and vine becomes a burden during propagation. Three nodes or less is sufficient. Remove all leaves below water to prevent rot and contamination.

Propagate in bright indirect light or grow light with water changes once a week or less if the water is dirty. Lots of cute propagation jars are out. Many are too short requiring cleaning too often. Some have narrow necks that can damage the roots when removing the cutting. They are also harder to clean. I like recycled food jars. I use Oui glass yogurt jars for shorter cuttings because I have a cave full of these 4-5 ounce jars!😄 I use jelly, salsa, spaghetti and other wider mouth jars for cuttings.
1 gillaMistakes were made. Many plants were sacrificed to gain this knowledge 😂: Letting too much water evaporate that leave the roots exposed to air. That’s why a larger jar is better even if taping a cutting is needed to prevent it from falling into the container. (Not keeping soil moist while propagating in soil/moss.) Planting too quickly when roots are less than 2 inches. Not using a root stimulator when propagating in soil/moss. And not adding it to the final pot. It’s an easy proven boost to get roots growing. It’s a bit messy in water. Intense sun quickly kills young plants. Slowly move young plants to full sun for those plants that can take full sun.

patience is key. wait like two or three weeks before even thinking about removing them from water. you can change the water, but keep them in water for awhile before removing. you’ll thank yourself!
