Houseplants, for the most part, I don’t have a problem propagating. Herbs, on the other hand, I’ve had success in the past but my current cuttings are struggling. Or maybe I’m impatient. It’s been nearly a month. I prop in water (same as last time), and they’re thriving, but I’m not seeing roots. I’ve got sage and rosemary going. I’ve done rosemary before but sage is new to me. Has anyone else done these and had success? Did I just get lucky the first time?

I propagate herbs in soil. I buy starter plants in spring and summer. They are usually leggy in late spring and during the summer. I trim them to make them bushier, especially mint and basil. I propagate the scrap trimmings. I remove the lower leaves, dip cut ends in rooting hormone powder and plant in potting soil. I water and put in indirect bright sunlight. I never let the soil dry out. Props need warm air temperatures which is not a problem late spring and summer. I slowly move to full sun as the plant gets bigger. Lack of and excess watering used to be an issue. I judge by weight and feel for moisture. Rooting hormone works to speed root growth. The soil should not be too compacted to allow the roots to easily spread. A looser well draining mix is better, but, requires more frequent watering. I hope this helps.
