I’m propagating Golden Pothos cuttings in water. Several are ready to be transferred into soil, but then when I went to do that today, I noticed this weird white stuff on the underwater nodes of several of them. Anyone know what this is? (Cross posted from Pothos group, apologies if you’re seeing it twice!)

Try to rinse it see if that works I would personally keep it in water till roots are a bit more present

I had this on some of my pothos cuttings as well when they were being water propped. The white stuff is basically the plant equivalent of stem cells. Totally harmless. No need to try to wipe it off or anything, just let it be. All my cuttings that had it are thriving now (been planted in soil for a few months now).

That said, this particular cutting doesn’t look ready for soil to me. I wait until the roots are 2 to 3 inches long or have secondary roots coming out of the main one. Edit- now that I look closer at the third picture I can’t tell if maybe that root is 2 to 3 inches after all?

Thank you! That puts my mind at ease. Also: I should have mentioned these are three different cuttings, one has decently rooted, the other two not yet.

They’re looking great! Hope they thrive and become big plants one day!

My pothos cuttings had this on them too and I was worried it was mold! Thanks for posting!
