Some of my leaves fell off my variegated croton so I’m trying to propagate but never propagated before except for my mini monstera which I bought that way. Am I doing this correctly?

I've never tried one of those before. I think they are like snake plants where you don't have to have a node to get roots. I'm always worried about rot so I try to only have just the ends in the water. Sometimes I fill my glass with pebbles and then fill with water so there's a little shelf for the plant to float around. Kind of like a bamboo plant. I'm sure it will only take 1-3 weeks to see roots. I've also hear using rooting powder and then putting it right into soil in a very small pot. I don't know if it would like a substrate like peat moss or coir? I like that stuff because I can just mist it every few days and not have to worry about getting a squishy propagation or root rot. Can't wait to see how it goes. Good luck!

I would also like to propagate my croton. I will follow your lead.
