Hi all! Anyone have any tips on propagating bromeliads? My bird’s nest is beginning to grow a pup and I’m wondering when is a good time to clip it and some pointers to help it succeed!

I would wait till it’s a bit bigger and stick it in the soil. They are sloooow. I have 5-6 pups I planted this way and they have lovely leaves for 2 years now and no flowers. I am patiently waiting 🫥

Wait until the pups are at least 1/3 to 1/2 the size of mama plant. Peel the bottom layers off to expose the pup, then cut as much of the root as you can without damaging the mama plant. The pups can be planted without roots because they’re rhizomes. You can keep producing pups off the mama (even if mama looks unhealthy) until the mama dies.
