I am interested in propagating some cuttings from my wrinkled Peperomia! I have never propagated before but am very interested in starting. I would love some tips on what to do and how to approach propagation, specifically for peperomias but also for propagation in general.

Peperomia are great plants for beginner propagation! Many plants do best if you start with a stem cutting that has 2-3 leaves, plus a “node” (the place where a leaf was, but you usually remove that leaf) or two that will be underwater. Roots sprout from the node. Peperomia are even easier, though, because they’ll sprout roots from the bare stem, too! To propagate a stem in water, use clean scissors to cut off a stem with 3-4 leaves. Pinch off the bottom leaf or two, so there’s enough bare stem to stick it into a vessel with a narrow neck (beer bottles work well). Fill it with water, and change or top off the water every few days. Once the roots are a few inches long, plant it!

Oh, and you can sometimes propagate peperomia from individual leaves, too! It’s not as fool-proof, and it takes way longer, but it’s pretty satisfying when it works! I usually start those in water, too. Or damp perlite.
