Decided to take a few of my Alocasia corms that were leafing out, out of the covered prop box they were in and pot them up in black & white striped layers of perlite and Fluval Stratum. Can’t wait to see the results as to how they compare to ones I put into Pon!

Second time I’ve seen someone refer to pon, what is this. I’ve been gardening for years so I feel a bit foolish not knowing. Is it short for a bigger word?

Letchuza Pon. It’s basically a mixed small rock substrate that mostly involves a volcanic type of rock. As well as pumice, and some other things that wick up water, allowing specifically aroids, who do well in the substrate to have their roots get the air gaps that they love as well as as much water as they need and also allows for you as a plant parent to not have to deal with excess watering or root rot or fungus gnats… since it is a non-organic substrate. Similar to Leca in semi-hydroponics except smaller (better for smaller roots than Leca) and has some nutrients in it. There is a plethora of YouTube videos all about Pon that describe it in much more detail than I can. Just type in what is pon and why is it good for my plants or some thing like that lol.
