hello i received this silver spotted begonia from my dad and grandpa a few months ago, after many attempts at propagating the leaves i can’t get any roots. this plant is probably almost as old as i am and it just feels too tall to support its self as you can see from the support systems they had put in, i’m not sure what to do. would i have better luck cutting straight from the stem? and why is this one so tall with so little leaves?

You can propagate it if you add rooting powder then put it in dirt

I propagate my spotted begonias all the time. In my experience, leaves might root in water, but once in soil to plant never grows. Stem cuttings are different story. See those notes, they are a great place, where a root will form. You can definitely cut the tall one with a couple of nodes and stick it in water. Once it has secondary roots, put it in soil.

I’d recommend fertilizing weekly for the lack of foliage, try reducing the normal dose so that you can spread out your fertilizing periods more frequently.
