Okay, so I have this wildly grown Chinese evergreen, given to me along with other… interesting… plants, and I want to chop and prop it so that it can be bushier and healthier but I don’t even know where to start… I’ve tried looking up videos but they’re hard to follow when the plant looks so different. I took a cutting and put it in water with some pothos cuttings but the Chinese evergreen cutting has been in water for months and shows no signs of root growth:(. I’m not sure if I need to cut in a different area of the stem or if it needs to be propagated in soil. Or if I should just chop it and let it regrow and not worry about propagating(& if so where would I cut😅). Please send help 😭😭 Btw- yes I know the support system is crazy, that’s how it was given to me. But it needs a lot of work and I don’t think that’s at the top of the list lol (needs new soil, new pot that actually has drainage holes, still has tiny nursery pot thing around roots….) Ik this part doesn’t have anything to do with propagating but just throwing it out there heh.

I have NEVER seen a Red Siam THIS BIG OH MY GOD!! According to my brief research (from a youtube video) You can cut the nodes at the base of the leaf (roughly as shown) below the nodes. I think you cut it too far down the stem for this plant. In the video they used fungicide paste, I would try letting it callous over personally. And you can try using a moss or water. I like to use root stimulants when I prop anything in water.

Also, this is a Chinese Evergreen ‘Red Siam’ (or Siam Aurora or whatever). Doesn’t make a difference really care-wise, but it might help your research as you do this.

Thank you!!! 🫶 I’ll try that and see how it goes :) (and I know it’s honestly rivaling my monstera in size😳)

I use the Greg app to ID plants and it’s my favorite (it’s free too)

It doesn’t seem to be free anymore, just a free seven day trial.

Any updates? I know the prop roots are slow to appear bc they carry their own water but did the roots ever appear?
