Hi! I’m new to propagating, and I was looking on Reddit yesterday and saw a comment about blocking the clear portion of the test tube off from the sunlight apparently helping the roots grow quicker. Does anyone know if this is true? I’ll provide an image to show what I mean.

I’ve never heard of that or seen any difference between using a clear tube or otherwise🤷‍♀️

I've never heard that either. I agree with fuel. I do tons of propagating with clear glass and it works great

Some plants take longer then others just so you know. Good luck

it can help decrease the possibility of algae in your water. Totally up to you if you want to do a clear or opaque tube!

Adding rooting hormone at the start and adding fertilizer when the roots emerge is better for faster root growth than avoiding a clear glass container.

Ive heard that darker to solid vessels help simulate and stimulate root growth because it’s mimicking roots growing in soil. I don’t know if it actually helps with it or it is just out of sight out of mind for me. I have noticed slight more root growth with opaque water vessels tho. It also depends on the plant. Some plants produce roots like crazy and some are slower growing. I’d say, don’t knock it til you try it because you’ll never know if you don’t.

I’ve never heard of this, although if you have any other propagations that you’ve started taking a little bit of their water can help your plants grow faster!
