Any tips on how to pot this SOT cutting when the time comes? Thanks everyone who has helped me on my nightmare string of turtles journey! I was able to salvage this piece and have been propagating it! It’s going so well and has quite a few roots coming in!

I have just potted my string of turtles propagation! I personally went straight to potting soil that was mixed in a 1:1 ratio with perlite as my roots were very advanced. However, if you want to better your chances with this tricky plant then i recommend you keep in propagation until the largest root is about 1-2 inches and then transfer to a perlite/water mixture! You can then gradually add soil over a few weeks until you have a good balance of soil and perlite. Then water as normal ❤️

How were you able to soil prop a SOT😩??? I’ve ordered a few online because I can’t find them locally and they arrive with terrible root rot every time. I’ve tried propagating them in soil and this cutting is the only survivor so I’m scared to put him in soil when the time comes haha 🥲

It’s a risky game let me tell you! I would definitely go with a slow introduction to soil if you have the time and patience for it as you’re gonna have a much better chance 😂. Good luck!

Maybe leca would be good to add to the soil mix or just leca. Idk I’m overthinking this because I can’t get a healthy SOT to save my life hahaha

I would worry leca on it’s own would eventually lead to root rot, (unless you add an aeration system like a bubble pump to keep oxygen cycling). I do place a layer of leca at the very bottom of all my pots as well as the 1:1 soil so perhaps that’s something you could try! I don’t think you should worry too much about any fancy hydroponic systems or leca, just take time and introduce your SOT to soil with good drainage gradually so not to shock the roots ☺️

I don’t have SOT, but for my SOP and SOH, I just laid part of the stem across the soil and they rooted without any effort. My soil is 50/50 potting mix and perlite. Also I misted the surface of the soil every couple days to keep it damp and they lived in my grow cabinet so the humidity was pretty high.

I know! My SOH does so well when I soil prop her but I haven’t had any luck with soil propping an SOT💔 this is the only cutting that’s survived so I’m nervous to put him in soil when the time comes lolol
